2007
I took my two boys to see this movie (ages 9 and 11). One of them thought it was a little disturbing because the waterhorse scared him a little. The creature gets REALLY big and becomes ‘wild’ after being scared by a loud noise. The other one enjoyed the movie and didn’t have any complaints.
“The Waterhorse” blends fantasy and history, creating an engaging story set during World War I.
Cover your ears, here’s a spoiler: the boy’s father has been killed and the poor kid doesn’t know it. My boys didn’t catch that fact. There were a lot of moments when you worry that the creature is going to get the axe, but don’t worry, he survives.
At least, it doesn’t show him die.
The film follows a young boy who discovers a mysterious egg that hatches into a waterhorse, a mythical creature. As the creature grows, it faces various challenges, including moments of fright when it becomes wild after being scared. Parents should prepare younger viewers for these scenes, which might be a bit intense. However, the movie balances these moments with themes of friendship, bravery, and wonder, making it an overall positive experience for children who enjoy fantasy adventures.
