Family Review: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

November 30, 2008

27 Yrs. Later, Indiana Jones & Marion Ravenwood Return… This movie was rated PG-13 for a reason. There were things in it that I wish my kids hadn’t seen. If you’re not sure, I’d preview this one first.

A guy gets carried away and eaten by a swarm of huge ants. He has blood coming out of his mouth and they crawl in. The movie would have been better without that scene. Honestly, I didn’t like the movie, but my kids want to see it again.

A bit of trivia on the Crystal Skull

George Lucas & Steven Spielberg’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull will be released May 22, 2008. Karen Allen from Raiders of the Lost Ark returns as Marion Ravenwood. I’m glad she’ll be back, I liked her in Raiders. From the pictures I found, it looks like she’s found the fountain of youth. It looks like she hasn’t aged much at all in the twenty-seven years since Raiders of the Lost Ark was filmed.

Unfortunately, Sean Connery will not be returning. Connery was approached for a cameo appearance as Henry Jones Sr., Indiana’s father, but he turned it down, finding retirement too enjoyable. George Lucas later stated that it was good that Jones Sr. did not appear, as it would disappoint the audience when he would not come along for the adventure. Harrison Ford joked that he was old enough to play his own father, so Sean wasn’t needed anymore.

Crystal Skull is the forth movie.

In my opinion, the most memorable of the Jones movies are Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade. I have no idea what happened with the Temple of Doom. I have yet to find a single person that enjoyed that one.
