Jun 30, 2010 Today I went to see the movie Eclipse and I am here to write a review for parents who aren’t sure if they should let their kids see it. The movie was based on Stephenie Meyer’s 2007 Eclipse. It stars Kristen Stewart as Bella, Robert Pattinson as Edward Cullen and Taylor Lautner as Jacob Black. It is a romantic-vampire film full of teen awkwardness.
I loved it, but I was relieved I didn’t drag my kids along to see it with me. I’d say PG-13 is a fitting rating for the movie. Parents should be aware that “Twilight Eclipse” is rated PG-13 for a reason. The film includes vampire battles, some blood, and a few intense scenes that might be unsettling for younger children.
I noticed that during the battle scene, when a vampire gets his head (or arms) ripped off, there isn’t any blood and they added the sound of breaking glass. There are a couple of kissy love scenes and they seem to be overly drawn out. I read the book and the movie does a good job following it (no complaints there).
Summit Entertainment is pulling a “Harry Potter” on us and Splitting the final book in the Twilight series up into two movies. “Breaking Dawn” is expected to be released in November, 2011.
