Percy Jackson Lightning Thief – Parents Movie Review

Feb 15, 2010 I just returned from watching this movie and we all enjoyed it. It might scare some younger kids so I thought I’d better write this while the movie is fresh in my mind. If your child read the entire book, I doubt that the movie would scare them. Spoiler alert….  There was a little blood and a be-heading (think Medusa), Mrs. Dodds the Fury is a little scary and so is Hades and a dragon like creature. The blood was in the battle scene between Annabeth and Percy during capture the flag (which never happened in the book, by the way). Annabeth gave him a few gashes with her sword and it did show a little blood. In the book, the fight occured between Clarisse and Percy.

Stay in the theatre after the movie, there is another quick movie scene halfway through credits!

The movie was entertaining to watch, but I was disappointed that they left so much out from the book. I was looking forward to seeing the ‘toilet scene’ when he first got to camp and also the St Louis Arch scene, but they were left out. I was a little sad that Clarisse La Rue (daughter of Ares) wasn’t in the movie. It was still good, despite that. The Lotus Hotel in Vegas was really cool! The music was good, too. Lady GaGa Poker Face and Ac-Dc Highway to Hell were in there.

We will probably see the movie again and hope they will continue with the other books in the series.

  1. Well- yes, I love this book series (never watched the movies, which only went as far as Sea of Monsters). Don’t know why the actors looked so much older than their character counterparts

Prefer the new Disney+ Series of the books- appear to be a little more faithful to them

    1. I’ll have to read the books again and watch the series. I haven’t seen it yet.
