Jul 18, 2011 Our family went to see Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 2 and enjoyed the movie. I would say it is appropriate for age 12 and up. You will see some blood and death in this movie and it is more intense than the other Potter flicks. Anyone who has read the book is probably ok to see it acted out in the film.

Parents should know that this film has extended fantasy violence with battle scenes, with many characters injured and killed, some graphic and disturbing images, grief and loss, brief strong language, and some kissing.

A favorite scene from the Hallows 2 movie was the Gringotts Wizarding Bank scene. Harry, Ron and Hermione must retrieve Helga Hufflepuff’s cup (a horcrux). In this scene you will see some dead goblins, and it’s not a pretty sight. This might bother some younger kids. The dragon is a little scary, too.

In the chapter “Battle of Hogwarts” several major characters are killed in the first wave of the battle (Remus Lupin, Nymphadora Tonks, Fred Weasley, and Severus Snape). This part of the movie might also upset the kids. There is some crying over dead bodies and a lot of death and brief disturbing images. The movie should have spent more time on this battle. We didn’t really see any of those main characters get killed except for Snape. It sounds blood thirsty, but they should have shown these important deaths. However, they did show the bodies afterword with the family crying over them. Maybe they thought that it would be too shocking for the audience to see these main characters die, but it was an important part of the book.

There were a few things that were changed, too. In the chapter where they enter the room of requirement looking for the Diadem of Ravenclaw,  Draco is accompanied by Vincent Crabbe and Gregory Goyle. In the movie, I wondered where Crabbe went and who the new guy was (pictured; right). It turns out Crabbe was replaced by a character named Blaise Zabini, and Crabbe was not in the movie at all. It turns out that the actor who played Crabbe was arrested. Read more here about his arrest.
