Extract, Movie Review

Jan 20, 2013  Not for kids, but super funny! If you are looking for some great entertainment check out the comedy, Extract. I thoroughly enjoyed this film on Netflix. The movie (from the makers of Office Space) was released in 2009 with a cute tag line, “He’s not a lover, he’s not a fighter, he’s a small business owner.” Joel Reynolds (Jason Bateman) started a company that makes Extract and it is about to be sold to General Mills for a big profit. An accident at the plant causes misfortune, bringing on a hilarious cameo by Gene Simmons. Joel works a lot of hours running his business and by the time he gets home every night his wife (Kristin Wiig) is already in her sweat pants and is more interested in “Dancing With the Stars” than him. Sexually frustrated, Joel Reynolds takes some unfortunate advice from stoner pal Dean (Ben Affleck) while intoxicated.

While “Extract” is a hilarious and entertaining film, it contains several elements that make it unsuitable for children. The movie features adult humor, including sexual innuendos and situations, that are inappropriate for younger audiences. Joel Reynolds’ frustrations with his wife lead to discussions about infidelity and hiring a gigolo, which are mature themes not meant for kids. Additionally, the film includes scenes of drug use, particularly involving Joel’s friend Dean, who frequently smokes marijuana and offers bad advice while intoxicated. The language in the movie is also mature, with explicit dialogues that are not kid-friendly. These aspects make “Extract” a film best enjoyed by adults looking for a good laugh.
