My Amazon KDP Account Was Terminated

My Amazon KDP account was terminated and has not been reinstated. No specific book was named, no behavior was identified, and no example was provided. Without details, I cannot determine what triggered the decision. My access was revoked, my books were removed from sale, and I was told I would forfeit any unpaid royalties.

I am sharing what happened, what I have learned, and what other self published authors should know about platform risk. This experience also changed how I think about building a writing business on a single platform.

What Amazon Told Me

I received an email stating my account was being terminated immediately for “activities attempting to manipulate our services.” I have not manipulated Kindle Unlimited reads, reviews, rankings, or platform metrics. I have never opened multiple KDP accounts. I used one account tied to one email address.

The absence of clarity is very frustrating. Authors cannot fix what they are not allowed to see.

  • If a book violates a guideline, it can be revised.
  • If metadata is incorrect, it can be corrected.
  • If a marketing practice crosses a line, it can be discontinued.

Being told only that “activities” occurred, without context or evidence, leaves no path forward.

About My Books

My books follow the KDP publishing guidelines. Most are resources for writers, including word lists, character name guides, and setting references.

As of this writing, the decision has been described as final. I have submitted a formal appeal and provided a plan of action outlining my commitment to compliance and prevention of any unintended policy violations.

This post is not written as an accusation. It is a factual record of what occurred.

If my account is reinstated, I will update this post.

If it is not, this will remain a transparent account of the experience.

Possible Factors

I recently moved households. Family members in the same home have their own Amazon accounts, but none are KDP publishers. I do not know whether shared networks, reader traffic patterns, or automated detection systems played a role.

My Response:

Dear Amazon KDP Team,

My KDP account was recently terminated, and I believe this may be a mistake. Could a human representative please review my account and explain what triggered the decision?

I have not participated in any abnormal reading activity or tried to manipulate the platform, and I’ve worked to keep all my content within KDP’s guidelines. If there are specific titles, pages, or activity you believe violate policy, please share the details so I can understand and address them.

Thank you for taking another look. I’d appreciate reinstatement if your review confirms this was an error.

Lesson Learned

Never put all your eggs in one basket.

Relying on a single platform carries real risk. Even when you follow the rules, enforcement decisions can happen without explanation and without a clear path to appeal. Every author should plan for distribution beyond one retailer.

No creator should build an entire business on a single platform, no matter how stable it appears.

Moving forward, I will be publishing across additional ebook retailers. My books will soon be available through platforms such as Smashwords, Apple Books, Barnes and Noble, and Kobo. I will share updated links as they go live.

Writers adapt. We always have.

And this is just the next chapter.

When one door closes, another opens.

What Comes Next

I am working on new ways for readers to access my books. Updated purchase links will be posted soon.
