Oct 30, 2008 The book Demon Keeper, by Royce Buckingham, was excellent. This is one of those books that I read and think, “why didn’t this get more attention? Why didn’t anyone ever recommend it to me?” I love books like this! It makes me wonder how many other excellent books I have missed.
It was full of suspense, humor and action. LOTS of HUMOR! My son begged me to read more every night, and I didn’t mind because it was a great book. We love books full of magic, enchanted houses, funny happenings, strange creatures, interesting characters and I’ll tell you what, this book has all of that. You can read the summary below and be sure to check out my review for this authors other book: Goblins! by Royce Buckingham. Demon Keeper will hopefully be made into a movie, as the rights were purchased by FOX in 2006, before the book was even published! Now that is impressive.
An now for the warnings: The book has some scary stuff, too. A few kids are eaten by a scary demon called BEAST and when this happens the description has some blood. Some kids may not be ready for this kind of book. I think it is a teen, young adult book based on this and I actually got it in the teen section at our library. Ages eleven and up would be a good measure, but every child is different. I know a five-year-old who’s favorite movie is The Mummy, for goodness sake.
17 year old Nathaniel Grimlock has just inherited a home full of needy demons. What he really wants is a date with plucky librarian’s assistant, Sandra Nertz. But when Nat neglects his monster-sitting duties to woo Sandy, the deadliest demon in the house escapes and begins to gobble up Seattle street kids! Now Nat must race to find a doomed homeless boy, recapture the vicious kid-eating beast, and hopefully earn a goodnight kiss.
